University Foundation Certificate
Developed by Kaplan, a world leader in education and test preparation, PLI’s University Foundation Certificate (UFC) is designed to help you achieve success in your university or college studies. It consists of two 8-week terms with 4 weeks of Intensive English in between. This program is available in both Toronto and Vancouver.
Requirements
Students who wish to enroll in our University Foundation Certificate must have obtained a high school diploma prior to beginning their studies at PLI and must reach PLI level B2, TOEFL iBT 48 or IELTS 5.0.
Length of Program and Start Dates
PLI’s University Foundation Certificate is 16 weeks long, with 4 weeks of Intensive English in between; however some students’ program length will vary because they may need additional English study before entering PLI’s University Foundation Certificate. Course Structure
- Term 1 is 8 weeks and consists of the following Core modules: Language Support, Academic English, Academic Support
- Term 2 is 8 weeks and consists of the following Core modules: IELTS Test Preparation, IELTS Writing and Reading Skills, Study Skills
Entry Requirements: High School Diploma and IELTS 5.0 (5.5 for some pathways), TOEFL iBT 47 or PLI B2

The University Foundation Certificate (UFC) course is recognized by 12 Canadian universities and colleges in lieu of TOEFL or IELTS scores. This is an excellent program choice for students who are applying to a Canadian college or university or for anyone who wants to improve their academic and English skills.
After completing the UFC course students will be able to:
- Write a 3000 word essay
- Score highly on an official IELTS or TOEFL iBT test
- Demonstrate skills in fundamental calculus
- Use modern computer applications necessary for university success
- Fully participate in lectures and debates
Students will receive a certificate upon successful completion of this course.
